The Hero!!! |
One sunny afternoon in Stickland, our hero was swinging through
the trees on his way to the local Kopi Kade*. The world moved below
him in a green-brown blur, oblivious to his passage. Stickman enjoyed
this sense of transient disconnect; the idea that he was moving
alongside the world in a parallel reality. Stickman was so consumed
by his existential ruminations that he failed to notice that he had
run out of vines and was now swinging on the tails of (and through) a
troupe of monkeys.
“OI!” called Delon, a slightly balding, middle-aged monkey with a paunch, “Watchit, y'jackass!”
Stickman's eyes, glazed over by way of metaphor (as mirrors turned inward, towards the soul), vaguely noticed that the texture of the vines in his hands had changed from rough and taut to soft and furry. He looked up. He saw the monkeys. He let go. He hovered in the air Wile E. Coyote-style. He plummeted; the ground rushed up to meet him and didn't kiss so much as smash itself into his face.
Luckily our hero escaped death. It was a great day to be two-dimensional.
The End.
