Portait in progress: Jujuby

Soft pastels, charcoal, rage

The story behind this one: I started it at the beginning of summer; took it to Sri Lanka and left it there without finishing it. The model isn't that rotund; neither is her nose that big (among other inconsistencies). One day I will complete this drawing - but today is not that day.

Feels like summer 2.0

The bottle

Soft pastels

As part of a reflective exercise for my theories class we had to create an image based on the story of a girl who finds something very precious to her that got lost during a journey through the woods. The story was kept vague so that we could fill in the gaps and personalise it - it was really interesting to note what associations my brain made with each new prompt. The 'woods' turned out to be a mashup between Yala, Horton Plains and something out of a fairytale. The object was based on this line from Rebecca, by Daphne Du Maurier:

"If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.

Pretty revealing, huh?
